I’m thinking of starting my own business and would like to use the internet as a marketing tool. The two primary things I would need from a host would be a) a good search engine keyword system (in other words people could type in "mowing", "dallas", "texas" in Google and find my business) and b) options to pay the business online using a credit/debit card. Who’s a good web host for this?

You’ll have to split the task at hand into two manageable chunks. The first one is to find a good Web host. The second is to either understand and learn search engine optimization (SEO) or hire an experienced SEO specialist that will do that for you.

A good Web host will help you with installing all the software that you need to get your business going including your Website, email addresses (to communicate with potential customers), a shopping cart and an online payment method. A good Web host will even go the extra mile and refer you to respectable SEO specialists that can configure your website so it’s "edible" by Google and therefore your Website will have a much better chance of showing up for those keywords. Be sure to sign up with a fully managed Webhost.

SEO specialists arrange your Website’s code in a way that Google and other search engines can easily index the content and make it available to your potential customers. But be careful not to fall for SEO businesses that pretend to know Google in and out and promise to land your business on the first page for the keywords: mowing dallas texas. Your website must contain answers to pressing problems of that company. It must be simple and easy to find information appealing to that company.

First and foremost, always remember the real reason for which you get into business. It is for one primary reason that MUST be your focus. That reason is to serve a niche market.

If you serve everyone you are too generalized. When you are a generic name, without a brand, you are spread too thin.

For example, I specialize in sales copywriting. Many people forget to brand their business. Your business must stand out compared with your competitors to be seen in the sea of competition.
